A few years ago I met the Rev. Dr. Della Reese-Lett at a ministers’ convention in Las Vegas that I helped to organize. Rev. Della was there to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for the work she has done with her church, her TV show and her life. I had the pleasure of introducing her for her acceptance speech. The following Sunday, Linda and I went to her church in Los Angeles. It's called Understanding Principles for Better Living Church, or Up Church. It was a wonderful experience, and as I read their little booklet called” What We Believe,” I thought to myself, “This would work for all Christians regardless of their definition of the word.” So, for your consideration, here it is:
WE BELIEVE that it is God's will that every individual on the face of this earth should live a happy, healthy, and prosperous life. As it says in Luke 12:32 “It is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
WE BELIEVE that such a life is within the reach of each of us, and the way to its attainment begins with the realization that the kingdom of God is within us, waiting for us to bring it into expression.
WE BELIEVE that we can bring this kingdom forth by practicing universal spiritual principles handed down through the ages and taught by our Way-Shower, Jesus Christ.
WE BELIEVE, with Jesus, that our experiences are the reflections of our beliefs, and therefore the key to happy and successful living is right thinking followed by right action. “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.” Proverbs 23:7
WE BELIEVE that the basis for right thinking is love - love of God and all that is good in our fellow human beings and ourselves.
WE BELIEVE that learning to listen to the whispering of the “still, small voice” within us will ensure that we are guided into right action.
WE BELIEVE in our oneness with God and with all people everywhere.
